Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) serves as the campus community mental health center for students. The Department's mission is to support students' emotional and intellectual development, emotional resiliency and personal well-being toward optimizing their ability to thrive in UCLA's diverse learning environment. CAPS clinicians provide clinical, outreach, and mental health promotion services. Clinical services are confidential and available to regularly enrolled students.

Under the supervision of the Director or designee, the Clinical Coordinator provides comprehensive health and mental health services, disability accommodation and student development services to UCLA students, as well as provide consultation services for faculty and staff, and the campus community. Provide services designed to assist students in optimizing their educational experience, minimizing the impact of illness, injury and emotional distress on students' academic careers by coordinating mental health care through a network of campus and community resources.

Key Responsibilities

Maintain knowledge of community referrals and assure that referred clients are monitored for continuity of care.

Provide crisis intervention and response, support other CAPS clinicians in crisis management, case management, and facilitating hospitalizations.

Ensure that students initiating contact with CAPS through the 24-hour access telephone line receive appropriate follow-up. Assume responsibility for documentation and document management for clinical services provided.  

Provide triage services to students seeking to establish care and/or in crisis

Provide short term psychotherapy to student population

Skills & Experience

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Currently licensed to practice in the state of California.

Minimum of 1 year post licensure experience.

 

Required:

 

Demonstrated multicultural competence in mental health service provision.

 

Previous college counseling center experience

 

Knowledge of local community mental health resources

 

Demonstrated ability to conduct brief psychotherapy and crisis intervention

 

Demonstrated ability to work in an interdisciplinary environment

 

Demonstrated skills in written and oral communication

 

Knowledge of basic computer skills (E.g. Windows, word)

 

Ability to work with diverse and traditionally underserved populations

 

Working knowledge of cultural and ethnic factors affecting mental health service delivery

 

Working knowledge of laws and ethics pertaining to mental health

 

Interpersonal skills to work as a part of a team as a member of committees and collaborate closely with colleagues and support staff.

 

Demonstrated skills to intervene with suicidal, homicidal, and psychotic clients

 

Demonstrated knowledge of the university environment and of developmental issues of college

age students

 

Demonstrated skills in consultation work with professional and non-professional colleagues.
